Clean As You Go: A Social Experiment |
In partial fulfillment to the requirements of Professional Values & Ethics under the supervision of Marc Gil Hinacay, Eun designed some reading materials for her group's social experiment held in STI College-Munoz EDSA's school canteen to prove Talcott Parson's Action Theory in 1Y1S AY 2016-2017.

In fulfillment for her group's baby thesis, Eun's group in Professional Values and Ethics conducted a social experiment called "The Effect of Applying Health Related and Dining Guideline Reading Materials On The Canteen Dinning Tables To The Cleanliness and Orderliness Of The STI Munoz-EDSA Canteen".
Background and Significance
"The school canteen is encouraging the “Clean As You Go” practice to keep the area free from pollutants or unpleasant substances for the students, faculty members, visitors and other personnel. The main goal of the practice is for all campus members to clean the dining area after using it to show respect and for the benefit of the next diners throughout the day, but not everyone especially the students is following this practice.
The major issue that our experiment will assess is the system that has to be followed after utilizing the canteen area. Where should the dishes, cups and utensils be placed after eating and what is the proper way of leaving the canteen. We will also conduct surveys on how many students are aware of the practice, why students follow and do not follow the practice to better understand the issue at hand.
Every member of the school campus will benefit from this experiment if it ends successfully and becomes a custom practice that is well enforced in the canteen area, because it is one of the places where cleanliness and orderliness must be extremely exercised due to its major use as our food consumption environment inside the school. This is will also show us the values and ethics that students have that may be of great help for the future enhancement of the establishment.
Within the canteen area, only the dining tables will be the independent variable. Here we will make the top part of the table interactive for the diners by means of placing worth reading materials on top of it with a thick plastic cover to protect the surface of the table. The reading materials will encourage the conscience and values of the diners to participate in the “Clean As You Go” practice and will force their professional ethics to follow the proper system in using the canteen. Then the process of leaving the canteen will be the dependent variable, because we will place signs for the diners to follow and will set an example for how to do the procedure without revealing that it is just a social experiment, leaving only the chairs, plates, cups and utensils as the controlled variables." - Social Experiment Proposal, p.3, 2016
